Kayak Diving

Instruction

I will be offering a Kayak Diver certification class every month. You must be a minimum of Advanced Open Water or equivalent.

Saturday morning finds us in the classroom for the academic basics of kayak diving where you will learn how to choose a kayak suitable for diving, required and optional equipment and accessories, and how to properly stow gear on the kayak. Following the classroom session, we will hit the pool. During the pool session, you will learn basic paddle strokes, how to get on and off the kayak, how to right an overturned kayak, gearing up, and gearing down.

On Sunday, we will complete Open Water dives 1 and 2 of the course at the Dania Pier or other suitable site. Parking can be a problem if you arrive after 8 am. Dive 1 will be close to shore, after which we will take a break. Dive 2 will be further out, drifting along a nice reef.

Parking at Dania Pier is $1.50/hour. Count on being there about 6 hours.

If you have your own kayak, the cost is $220. If you need to rent one, $269, which includes kayak, seat, paddle, PFD, and dive flag. The cost includes a copy of Mark Theobald's CD "Kayak Fishing and Diving".
